Blog Post #1 Final Project Idea

     Another Me      

    My opening sequence will consist of a girl meeting someone that looks identical to her in the woods, such as a doppelgänger. The inspiration for this idea originated from the “Mandela Catalog”, a YouTube channel that creates horror clips for entertainment and the movie “US”, featuring alternates of the people above ground. I stayed loyal to this decision ever since I entered the Media studies class due to my interest in the story behind “alternates”.  

   

The first scene is based off of a couple of establishing shots. I want establishing shots to start my sequence off to create a sense of realism. It sets an unsuspecting and innocent mood for the audience. This way, they are unable to expect similar elements of other opening scenes. To construct this idea, I want to film areas of my neighborhood. For instance, the highway and the park.  

A girl will be walking her dog at the park. However, its leash gets detached without her knowing and she trips while it runs into the forest. She will search for her dog, calling out its name. This scene will introduce the girl’s’ relationship with the alternate as it appears unexpectedly, surprising her. The alternate will slightly copy the girl’s’ movements, following her as she moves back or tilting its head when she does so. This will frighten her but raise her curiosity. It will lead her to walk closer to it in attempt to learn its movements. Then, the girl will call for her dog, keeping her guard up and maintaining eye contact with the "thing". It stares at her for a moment before its mouth opens to scream a gut wrenching sound. Horrified, the girl runs further into the forest but trips on a rock. The alternate is lurking behind her in the shot.

The alternate’s character will look uncanny and indescribable. This will be done in the form of mise-en-scene by using makeup to distort the character’s eyes, lips and nose. These features will be darkened to construct a mysterious or freaky aura coming from the doppelgänger. As for the girl, her face will include mascara to emphasize her expression and teen age. Their clothes will be relatively the same, although, the alternates will appear slightly messy or dirty to show how she has been in the forest for a long time.
