Genre conventions are included in media to add common additions that people remember. These add ons make the media more interesting when a pinch of familiarity goes into a new mix. They also help explain what a character, setting, or theme of a film is. For example, one may notice that a horror film on a preview is an horror movie due to the darkness, eerie forest or blood in the background.
Furthermore, genre conventions apply to people in real life. When somebody has tattoos and a shirt with a band on it, people will immediately assume that person is hardcore and not somebody to mess with. This is when conventions do not work because people's personality's are assumed than looked into, causing potential issues for their personal life. Moreover, in the movie "No One Will Save You", people can see that there is a dark forest in the background. This helps them understand that the movie is related to the horror genre.
Genre conventions allow an audience to have expectations for media as well, such as to the plot or love story of two characters. If it matches, sales go up due to the producers giving fans what they want to see. It adds an emotional impact and influence to films.
For my final cut, a few genre conventions I will use to grab the attention of my audience will consist of an unsettling and gloomy day. This allows viewers to understand that my film will revolve around a scary-like theme. Another is the crunching of leaves when a character walks in a forest. This creates suspense.
